2019 Conference: University of Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand
The APSTSN has a dedicated APSTSN stream in the 2019 Sociological Association of Aotearoa New Zealand (SAANZ) Conference, 3-6 December, 2019 University of Auckland, as well as APSTSN members being able to opt for the general program.
We have opted for this conference participation in 2019 as it is our practice to participate in other events in between our biennial conferences (where we cancelled ours in 2017/2018 because of Sydney 4S). In 2020, we plan to hold our next biennial conference with a new executive team.
We would like to sincerely thank SAANZ President Steve Matthewman (also an APSTSN member) and the conference organising committee for the invitation to participate in the SAANZ Conference.
The SAANZ 2019 Conference announcement (released yesterday) reads:
“The Disciplinary Areas of Sociology and Criminology at the University of Auckland will host the 2019 SAANZ conference. The conference will house a dedicated stream from the Asia-Pacific STS Network. We also welcome the Gender and Sexuality group. The conference will be held at the city campus, 3-6 December 2019. The theme is: Sociology for Everyone. The conference will commence with a pōwhiri at Waipapa marae. The first keynote speaker will be Linda Tuhiwai Smith. There are several more confirmed keynote speakers. Details will follow in the new year.”
The conference in many ways follows the style of an APSTSN conference and sociology is a key discipline informing STS that also caters for political philosophy, otherwise known as political science: the other key discipline informing STS; so, we will be very much at home at the SAANZ conference.
More detail from January 2019 onward, all the best for the festive season and new year!
